The beta feels more like an alpha and on the whole it was a big step backwards for me in terms of usability.Įdit May 1st 2023: It looks like this seems to be "leaving beta" despite being badly broken and a massive regression in UX. Killing that and starting a new session and quickly switching to a single screen does prove to work, albeit that's not a very good solution when you have windows across both monitors.Īll of this is to say: tread with caution. Once System UI crashed it moved on to reporting that the remote desktop app was not responding with repeated ANRs. It crashed System UI so hard that it loaded entirely the wrong wallpaper after rebooting. System UI stopped responding and I kept getting the ANR prompt for System UI over anything I was trying to do. ![]() I have a 1440p g-sync monitor for gaming and another 4K monitor for productivity and with both screens enabled all I ever see is a giant black rectangle.Īside from the giant black rectangle the whole app is so poorly optimized it locked up core parts of my phone. Let me warn you though: the beta is effectively just showing you a mobile optimized Chrome tab for and using the web renderer that you may have encountered using a desktop session before.Īside from it being not well optimized for touch input it simply does not work if you have multiple displays. I am happy that google is trying to devote some attention to improving the app since it has rotted in neglect with weird bugs cropping up (like Pixel users on cell networks getting disconnected as soon as a remote session begins from their modem resetting). If you are a user of the (old and neglected) Chrome Remote Desktop like myself, you may get a prompt when opening the app to enroll in the beta and try out the new HTML5 version.
